Tea garden manager kidnapped in Charaideo, trader at Howraghat

Armed miscreants have struck yet again, abducting two persons from Charaideo and Howraghat taking the total number of kidnappings by gunmen in the State within 24 hours to three.

After the abduction of a manager of a stone quarry at Jagun in Tinsukia district Monday night, gunmen kidnapped the manager of a tea garden near Borhat in Charaideo district of Assam Tuesday night. Numol Chandra Borah, manager of Timon Tea Estate, was abduced by a four-member armed group around 7:30 pm on Tuesday after identifying themselves as cadres of the outlawed ULFA (Independent).

The miscreants kidnapped the tea garden manager from his bunglow. Despite pleas made by his ailing wife, the armed miscreants forcibly took Borah away with them.

Police are yet to confirm whether ULFA (I) is really behind the kidnapping.

On the other hand, a trader was abducted by armed miscreants at North Borbil under Howraghat police station in Karbi Anglong district around 6:30 pm yesterday. Babul Deb, the trader, was abducted at gunpoint by a three-member group of gunmen.

The twin abduction comes within 24 hours of the kidnapping of a stone quarry manager named Apurba Kakoty at Jagun.

Police are investigating as to who could be behind the abductions and also to rescue them at the earliest possible time.
