‘Special status for Assam if Congress voted to power’

Congress president Rahul Gandhi today (April 3) promised special status for Assam if the party is voted to power. The Congress president and Gandhi scion, who was addressing an election rally at Bokakhat, also announced that the party will introduce a new industrial policy for the Northeast besides scrapping the Niti Ayog brought in by the Narendra Modi Government and continuing with the planning commission.

Campaigning for Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi, Rahul Gandhi further promised minimum income guarantee of Rs 72,000 for every individual and scrapping the GST if the Congress party comes to power.

“We do what we say, we don’t lie… it’s the Narendra Modi Government that always lies,” Rahul Gandhi retorted.

Former three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his son and Kaliabor Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi, APCC president Ripun Bora, Leader of the Opposition Debabrat Saikia, former ministers Ajanta Neog and Rakibul Hussain, party MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi, Rekibuddin Ahmed and other party leaders were also present in the rally.

The Congress president also addressed another rally in Lakhimpur, campaigning for party candidate Anil Buragohain.
