SBI official’s killing | Police intensify probe, question bank officials

PUBLISHED:

Assam Police have intensified their probe into the sensational killing of Junu Sharma, deputy branch manager of SBI Dadara branch, who was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants at Agyathuri in Kamrup district Tuesday night. No arrests have, however, been made so far.

ADGP (Law and Order) Mukesh Agarwalla is overviewing investigations and held meetings with cops of Dadara police out-post and Kamrup SP Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Addl. SP Sanjiv Saikia.

Police are also questioning officials of Dadara SBI amid reports of financial anomalies in the bank. The slain bank officer’s husband had made a sensational allegation when he claimed that his wife was shot dead to brush aside alleged financial anomalies that she had come to know about.

Cops questioned the branch manager of SBI Dadara in connection with the alleged financial anomalies. Police are also looking at all other angles, including the use of contract killers, following the killing of Junu Sharma.

The SBI official was shot dead from point blank range by two motorcycle-borne assailants while she was returning home from office that fateful evening. Her driver Pranab Kalita, who was at the steering wheels of the car when the incident took place, escaped unhurt. He was later detained for questioning by police.
