RIP Dipali Baideo; Condolences pour in

Condolences are pouring in following the demise of legendary singer Dipali Borthakur, also known as the Nightingale of Assam, who breathed her last today afternoon (Dec 21). Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to the social media to mourn the singer’s demise and termed it a great loss for Assam.

“Deeply saddened by the demise of noted singer Dipali Barthakur. Her enormous contributions enriched Assamese culture. My heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family and well wishers,” Chief Minister Sonowal tweeted.

The Finance, Health and PWD Minister expressed grief at the demise of Dipali Borthakur and offered his condolences to the bereaved family members.

“Assam’s Nightingale Padmashri Smt Dipali Barthakur’s soul stirring melodies will continue to leave lasting imprints on our minds for generations. Our prayers for her departed soul,” tweeted Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“It’s a great loss for Assam. Dipali Baideo has left for her heavenly abode. Now it’s our duty to preserve her songs. We will keep her legacy alive through her immortal and evergreen songs,” singer -filmmaker Zubeen Garg said.

“I will never forget her smile, the warmth that she used to radiate. She was a very special person. I am quite out of words to describe the void her passing away has created,” noted actress Chetana Das said.

Family members, relatives and countless fans of Dipali Borthakur congregated at their Beltola residence after the mortal remains were brought and offered their last tributes. The remains will be kept for the night to enable people to pay their respects and will be cremated with full State honour at Nabagraha crematorium tomorrow (Dec 22).
