Nurses’ strike | Govt refuses to bow down, talks tough

PUBLISHED:

The Assam Government has refused to bow down to the demands raised by striking nurses and is taking up measures to ensure that patients do not suffer due to lack of nursing staff in Government hospitals in the State.

Nurses under the banner of All Assam Nurses’ Association (AANA) are on strike seeking resolution of anomalies related to grade pay structure of the 7th Pay Commission report besides seeking the restoration of the ‘Staff Nurse’ designation that has done away with and replaced by the ‘Nurse’ designation.

The Government, meanwhile, is taking a strong stand to restore nursing facilities that have been hit by the ongoing strike that entered its fourth day today (Nov 29). The government has already started the process of absorbing more than 700 staff nurses besides mobilizing nurses from other hospitals and sending out an SOS to retired GNM, matrons and staff nurses, asking them to join services on contract basis.
