Himanta Biswa highlights scheme implementation in PWD

Five thousand six hundred and eighty-one (5,681) projects are under various stages of implementation under the Assam Public Works Department since Himanta Biswa Sarma took over as Minister. The projects will incur a cost of Rs 5,700.52 crore.

Highlighting the achievements made in the PWD since taking over the department on May 2, Himanta Biswa Sarma said 3,160 roads are also being constructed at a cost of Rs 8192.45 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) while construction of a 3-lane railway overbridge at Na-ali in Jorhat town is also underway under the Northeast Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS).

The Assam Finance and PWD Minister also said Rs 1,285.57 crore has been sanctioned for renovation of 1,708 roads while Rs 1,327 crore is being used for construction of 1,621 roads in Assam since May this year.

“A total of 5,681 projects are under various stages of implementation since I became PWD minister of the State on May 2 this year,” Sarma said.

“While Rs 1,285.57 crore has been sanctioned for renovation of 1,708 roads, Rs 1,327 crore is being utilized for construction of 1,621 roads in the State during this period,” he added.

Amond the projects under implementation are the signature projects under the Uttoron scheme (50 projects in 50 LACs at a cost of Rs 499.41 crore), 279 projects in 109 LACs at a cost of Rs 1046.03 crore under the Mahabir Lachit Chilarai Setu Nirman Abhijan (RIDF XXIV of NABARD), 108 projects in 45 assembly constituencies at a cost of Rs 324.78 crore under Mahabir Lachit Chilarai Setu Nirman Abhijan under State Owned Priority Development scheme, 636 projects in 63 assembly constituencies at a cost of Rs 513.35 crore for development of internal labour line road of tea gardens, 1,621 projects at a cost of Rs 1327.86 crore, 1708 projects at a cost of Rs 1285.57 crore and 752 projects at Rs 304.49 crore (in 109 constituencies all under the State Owned Priority Development-G scheme) and 527 projects in the four assembly constituencies in Guwahati under city works under State Owned Priority Development-G scheme) are currently under various stages of implementation.

The State PWD has also proposed three schemes to be taken up during the 2018-19 fiscal that will be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 7,900 crore.
