“Assam Police has been able to win the trust of the people of the state by providing diligent service in the recent period and a sense of security and peace is prevailing across the state.” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today (Oct 1) said while speaking as the chief guest at the Assam Police Day 2018 programme held at 4th APBN ground, Kahilipara in the city.

Saying that the state government is taking a lot of steps to modernise the Assam Police, Sonowal stated that along with infrastructural changes the mentality must also be changed which is suitable for a modern police force. Cyberdome is set up in the state to tackle cyber crimes and a lot of other initiatives have been taken to make a smart police force, he informed.

While honouring 16 police personnel for their outstanding performances with Chief Minister’s Medal, Sonowal said that Assam Police should aim for becoming the best police force in the country. He urged them to set an example before the younger generation to dedicate themselves to the cause of the society and encourage them to aspire to join the police force.

Stating that many investors are coming to Assam as the state has been able to position itself as a lucrative destination for business and investment in the recent times, the chief minister urged the police force to maintain the environment of peace and tranquillity for the industrial development of the state.  Age old ties and harmony among all sections of people in the state must be maintained and outsiders visiting the state must be able to witness the tranquil environment of the state, he said.

“People always expect the police to be their saviour and protector and Assam police must live up to those expectations without fail. Dedication and sincerity of the personnel must translate into performance and conscience must guide all your actions.” The chief minister asserted. He also appreciated the police for their stellar work in fighting corruption and rooting out corrupt practices from the society.

Receiving the Guard of Honour, Sonowal said that ‘work is worship and duty is god’ must be the motto for Assam Police as the force must deliver their services round the clock unlike many other government agencies. He also said that the concept of a smart police is slowly taking shape and ‘Team Assam’ spirit must be kept intact in all circumstances. He also informed about the government plan to harness the sporting talents within the police force who can go on to win accolades at the national and international stage.

Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia also spoke on the occasion where he highlighted the crucial role played by Assam Police in the fight against insurgency and maintaining law and order situation during the NRC updation process.
