Assam remembers Oct 30 serial blast victims

PUBLISHED:

Assam remembered the victims of the Oct 30 serial blasts that rocked the State ten years ago, killing over 90 people and injuring and maiming nearly a thousand more. Nine near-simultaneous explosions rocked Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta Road that were orchestrated by the Ranjan Daimary-led faction of the NDFB.

Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjee offered tributes to the victims of the gory explosions at Ganeshguri and the CJM Court, two of the three locations in Guwahati where the blasts were triggered.

Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi, whose government was in power in Assam when the blasts took place, also paid tributes to the Oct 30 blast victims.

Tributes were also paid to the blast victims at the CJM Court with the lawyers’ fraternity paying their homage to their colleagues and friends who lost their lives in the explosions.

Meanwhile, family members and kin of the blast victims expressed their anger over promises that were made by the past Congress government but were never kept.

“We lost our bread winners in the blasts. The government assured us of adequate compensation and a government job. But the promises remained promises. We have not got justice neither have we received adequate compensation,” family members of blast victims said.

Incidentally, nine near-simultaneous blasts — four of them in Guwahati, two each in Barpeta Road and Kokrajhar and one in Bongaigaon — were the bloodiest explosions triggered militants in the State.
