102, 108 employees continue stir, get AITUC backing

PUBLISHED:

Protests by striking GVK EMRI 102 & 108 employees in Assam continued for the sixth day today (Sep 10) as they continued their tirade against the Hyderabad-based company demanding pending increments and flaying the abrupt termination notice that company authorities had slapped on them.

Nearly 3,000 employees of the emergency ambulance service have been on strike since last Wednesday (Sep 5) with the protesting employees staging a demonstration in front of the company’s office at Sarusajai yesterday while continuing with their protests at Christian Basti today.

GVK EMRI, meanwhile, had slapped termination notices on the striking employees claiming that “services are conterminous with the GVK EMRI’s agreement with the government”.

“As per the terms of your services, your services are conterminous with the GVK EMRI’s agreement with the government. Accordingly, your services will come to an end on September 30… If any changes or communication from the government of Assam in regard to the continuation of MoU will be communicated to you accordingly to continue your services based on your satisfactory performance in the current job,” the termination notice had read.

On the other hand, striking employees received a big boost with the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) extending its support to the striking ambulance service employees.
