Now, woman in Mangaldai fall prey to moral policing

PUBLISHED:

From the Dokmoka lynching incident of Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das to the assault on a youth at Kalaigaon by another mob and then ‘moral policemen’ assaulting a young couple for being in a relationship at Pukhuripara in Goalpara district. Despite efforts to sensitize people not to take up law into their own hands, more and more incidents of mob assaults are being reported in Assam, the latest one coming from Mangaldai where a group of morality preachers physically assaulted a woman and also paraded her across the streets, that too in the presence of cops.

The woman, a mother of four children, was beaten up by both men and women on the slightest of pretexts while policemen remained mute spectators. The incident reportedly took place at Dahi Nagaon locality of Mangaldai on Monday (June 18).
