Modi Govt’s Expiry Date Over: Mamata Banerjee

PUBLISHED:

Opposition leaders Saturday sharpened their attack on the Narendra Modi-led central government with TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mincing no words in attacking the Prime Minister and claimed Modi government’s expiry date is already over.

Addressing the ‘United India’ rally in Kolkata that saw several Opposition leaders joining her, the West Bengal Chief Minister fired fresh salvos at Prime Minister Modi as she chanted “Badal do Badal do Dilli ka sarkar badal do.”

“Who will be prime minister can be decided after the elections,” she said, and added that the “end of the BJP has begun”.

More than 20 prominent leaders — including former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy; and former CMs Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Akhilesh Yadav and Gegong Apang of Arunachal Pradesh, NCP supremo and former union minister Sharad Pawar, RJD leader and former Bihar deputy CM Tejeshwi Yadav, Congress representatives Mallikarjun Kharge and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and dissident BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha along with Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie — attended the mega rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, who had quit the BJP recently, came down heavily on the Narendra Modi government accusing it of playing “mischief” with developmental statistics.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on the other hand, said if the BJP came to power in 2019, Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will operate like Adolf Hitler.

“If you consider someone who speaks the truth a rebel, then let me be a rebel. I cannot compromise with truth and my principles,” Shatrughan Sinha said, and added: “We have gathered here to present the views of NEWS (North, East, West and South).”
