Om Birla launches Fit India drive in Parliament complex

New Delhi: Union ministers and other parliamentarians joined Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday as he launched the Fit India drive at the Parliament House, saying it should become a people’s movement.

MPs should ensure that people in their constituencies take to the fitness drive and there should be a “healthy competition” among them to be one of the fittest places in the country, Birla said.

He said as yoga gained in popularity since the start of the International Yoga Day at India’s behest, Fit India Movement too should become a “people’s movement”, according to a statement.

Birla led the participants to a walk around the complex before they were briefed by instructors about various exercises.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the message is that only a healthy nation can become a strong nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Fit India Movement on August 29 to mark the National Sports Day. (PTI)
