Congress flay PM, people hit back

PUBLISHED:

People of Assam have hit back at the Congress party after the latter accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of scoring brownie points by inaugurating projects initiated by previous non-BJP governments. Taking strong exception to the BJP not inviting former Prime Ministers HD Deve Gowda and Manmohan Singh and former three-term Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to the inauguration ceremony of Bogibeel Bridge, the Congress accused PM Modi of lacking courtesy.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bogibeel Bridge. We welcome the inauguration and hope it will usher in development in the region. However, the manner in which he inaugurated the bridge, sidelining former Prime Ministers HD Deve Gowda and Manmohan Singh and former three-term Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi from the inauguration proves that he lacks courtesy,” CLP Leader Debabrat Saikia said.

“He said three bridges over the Brahmaputra have already been inaugurated after his government came to power at the Centre. But he should know these projects were initiated when either the Congress or coalition governments comprising the party were in power in New Delhi,” he added.

However, people of Assam are unhappy with the Congress party over the issue with many people accusing previous Congress governments of doing little to fasten the pace of construction work of these projects.
