GUWAHATI, Aug 26: Another Assam civil servant has been arrested by police in connection with the six-crore-sixty-lakh rupee scam relating to the Sutarkandi land port. The Land Ports of India project under the Home Ministry was meant to purchase land for expansion of the Sutarkandi trade centre in Karimganj.

ACS officer Nabarun Bhattacharjee, the suspended Cachar District Development Commissioner and former Karimganj ADC who had been on the run, surrendered before Karimganj Police Sunday night. He was later taken into custody.

Police had earlier arrested former Karimganj deputy commissioner Pradip Kumar Talukdar from Guwahati and Karimganj circle officer Homen Gohain Baruah for their alleged involvement in the anomalies.

Two senior land revenue officials of Karimganj circle office were also arrested in June this year.

The arrested officials had allegedly forged land documents while procuring land for expanding the Sutarkandi trade centre in Karimganj depriving genuing land owners.
