Authorities of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College in Barpeta Wednesday admitted to senior students forcing freshers (male students) to trim their hair very short but said it was not an act of ragging by seniors.

News Live had Tuesday (Aug 20) night telecast visuals of several male boarders of the fresh batch making a beeline to salons for a haircut. Several students were seen having a haircut as late as 9:30 pm although boarders are not allowed to go out of hostels after 6:30 pm.

Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora, principal of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, admitted after watching the News Live report that freshers underwent hair cuts following pressure from senior borders but fell short of admitting the incident as an act of ragging.

“We saw how boarders of the fresh batch were having a haircut till late night. Seniors often ask boarders of the fresh batch to trim their hair. But I can assure you that it’s not a case of ragging,” Dr Bora said, adding that authorities of the medical college have a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging.
