95% Kaziranga National Park under flood water

GUWAHATI: The Kaziranga National Park is 95% inundated by flood waters according to park officials. The national highway number 37 is witnessing accidents and other communication problems. Water overflowing through highway 37 has made the people living in areas of Borbil, Hatikhuli, Rangajan, Dagaon, Haldibari and Bejgaon homeless. A large number of people have taken shelter in the schools, highlands and on the sides of the highway. Their struggle for food and shelter throughout this period will remain an uphill task.

On the other hand, the animals of the Kaziranga National Park are crossing the national highway 37 and moving to the Karbi hills in search of food and shelter. Animals while crossing the highway, have been hit by fast-moving vehicles. As per reports, 6 deers have been killed in road accidents during this period of chaos.

Though animals have taken shelter at the highlands constructed within the park but due to lack of space, the animals are moving to the nearby hills of Karbi Anglong. Also, animals in hordes have taken shelter at the highway and traffic had to be stopped for a considerable time to provide a safe corridor for these animals to the highlands and the Karbi hills.
