Sadhus and Sanyasis throng Kamakhya Hills for Ambubachi 2019

GUWAHATI: The Ambubachi Mela will start from 22nd June at the Kamakhya Temple campus here in Guwahati, Assam. Sadhus, sanyasis and devotees have started thronging the Kamakhya hills for this religious event. The sadhus have come from many parts of the country to witness this once-in-a-year mela.

One of the prominent sadhus, Thanapati Maharaj said, “For the festival that will start on 22nd June, Naga Sadhus and other Sanyasis have started arriving from different regions of the country. As of now around 750 Naga Babas have reached the Kamakhya Hills. Special rituals of Naga Sadhus will start from the first day of the Ambubachi Mela.”

Sadhus have mainly come from place like the famous Juna Akhara, from Haridwar and Kolkata and parts of West Bengal and Bihar.

“We come here every year during the festival. Sometimes due to problems we may not come but next year we are here,” said a sadhu from Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

“We like coming here. Sitting here in the Mother’s (Kamakhya) lap is a different experience. Though our rituals and practices are a daily affair, but it gets special during the mela,” said a sadhu from Durgapur.
