No lessons have been learnt from the horrific Dokmoka lynching with people still not dithering to take up law into their hands as more and more incidents of moral policing incidents are being reported from across Assam. In the latest incident of moral policing, a woman was stripped, mercilessly beaten up and her head tonsured for opposing the marriage of her own minor child at Baterhat in Dhubri district of Assam. A group of men and women physically attacked the woman, handing blows and punches besides tonsuring her head and even pouring hot water on her. The incident reportedly took place on the night of Oct 2.
The chilling incident that went viral on social media platforms showed a group of people that also included several women attacking the woman, punching kicks, blows and slaps on her as she shouted for help.
People of the locality were pressurizing the victim to get her minor son married. She, however, refused and sought police help.
Infuriated at her approaching the police, the group of people took up law into their hands and attacked the woman in the most inhuman manner. The victim suffered serious injuries but has not taken medical help due to want of money.
Three women have been arrested by police after the incident went viral on social media leading to a furore.
