Acclaimed filmmaker Rima Das’ Oscar-bound movie ‘Village Rockstars’ released today (Sep 28) with movie buffs thronging theatre halls and multiplexes across Assam and other parts of the country. The movie was released in 34 theatres across Assam and in other towns and cities in the country.
‘Village Rockstars’ was released in packed theatres with film lovers thronging movie halls and multiplexes to watch the movie on the first day. Multiple screenings are being arranged in almost all theatres as people said that the film, made with a shoestring budget but was good enough to pip 27 other big-budget movies like ‘Padmavat’, ‘Raazi’, ‘Padman’ etc, is good and technically sound enough to win an Oscar at the 91st Academy Awards.
“It’s a great film. Everybody should come to the theatres and watch the movie. It should get an Oscar,” a movie lover said after watching the film at Chhaygaon in Assam’s Kamrup district from where Rima and most of the film’s cast and crew hail.
The film, which had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and India premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival 2018, has been screened in more than 70 international and national film festivals and won 44 awards, including the Best Feature film Award at the 65th National Film Awards. Bhanita Das who played the role of the child protagonist ‘Dhunu’ also won the Best Child Artiste award along with a couple of more national glory.
