The bodies of five members of the family in the tragic accident in Gaurisagar’s Dikhowmukh have still not been recovered. Five members of the family from Guwahati have gone missing on Saturday evening after all of them fell into river Dikhow along with the vehicle they were travelling.
According to locals, there were Haren Bora, his wife Phunu Bora, daughters Chimpi Bora, Munmi Bora and Haren Bora’s mother Panou Bora in the vehicle. As per reports, the incident occurred at around 7 pm on Saturday. It has been doubted that the accident took place when the vehicle – Swift DZire skidded off the embankment of river Dikhow after losing control and fell into the river.
Although a SDRF team reached the spot last evening but due to technical glitches they could not operate their two speed boats which disrupted the rescue operation. Adverse weather conditions were also one of the reasons which led to the disruption in the rescue operation.
Witnesses of the accident said that after the car crashed into the river, the family had cried for help. All present tried their best to break the glass to bring out those trapped inside, but all in vain, after which the car floated for around 200m and gradually drowned.
