As many as 75 people were killed and scores injured after dust and thunderstorms accompanied by lightening and heavy rains lashed several parts of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi-NCR Sunday evening.

Uttar Pradesh was the worst hit State that accounted for at least 51 deaths while 83 others were reportedly injured following the severe storm accompanied by squall, lightening and heavy rains. Eight people died due to drowning in Barabanki district.

On the other hand, at least 12 people that included four children were killed in West Bengal while Andhra Pradesh and Delhi accounted for nine and two deaths respectively.

High-velocity winds uprooted trees and affected road, rail and air services and left behind a trail of devastation in many places.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, issued severe weather warnings for the next 72 hours for Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh along with some other parts of the country.
